| The original
photograph as submitted for restoration. This photo had been glued to a
sheet of cardboard by person unknown, perhaps to help preserve the picture.
A channels adjustment came first which greatly improved the aged color tint.
Creases, scratches, and any other damages to the picture were then repaired.
The subject was removed from the picture and the background evened out and
faded to reduce the heavy shadow. A levels adjustment was also applied to
certain areas of the subject to reduce shadows as well. Photo element changes
were performed on the right eye and the collar. Enhancements were applied
to the hair, face and uniform as well as some photo sharpening. The photo
was cropped, resized, and bordered to portrait size. |

| The top layer of a photograph, called the emulsion layer
can discolor over time due to a number of reasons. Acid in the paper, light,
and heat are just a few. This original photograph showed heavy discolorization
and some fine separation lines in the emulsion layer. A color channels inspection
followed by a hue and saturation adjustment layer greatly improved the color.
The separation lines and any other imperfections were then smoothed out.
Color enhancement layers were placed on top of the lady followed by a curves
adjustment layer. Slight exposure compensations were applied and then the
background was replaced with a solid color and a drop shadow added to the
subject. |
The finished photo, repaired, color enhanced, with exposure
and hue/saturation adjustments. The background has been replaced and a drop
shadow added to the subject. Repair Time: 2 days
