Photo enhancement goes hand in hand with exposure adjustments and photo sharpening except that photo enhancements center more on problems within the photograph itself. Digital noise is a good example, sun glare and color wash-out are others. These problems require more than exposure or sharpening corrections and depending upon the severity can sometimes prove to be one of the most difficult challenges faced by a photo restoration artist. The challenge faced by the photo restoration artist is to either blend in or remove all together, these unsightly artifacts without losing any subject detail in the photograph. Severely affected photographs will need an attention to detail, color, sharpening, and overall adjustments in order to preserve the original photograph as the artifacts are removed.

| Although a bit of noise was present in this 35mm picture, another more obvious problem was color wash-out. The giraffe and tree were first separated from the background and designated as the foreground. The noise was then removed from both the foreground and background using slightly higher settings on the background. A curves adjustment and color saturation increase on the background was preformed . A separate curves adjustment and color saturation increase was then preformed on the foreground using slightly higher settings. Color overlays were placed over the foreground and a separate overlay was placed over the giraffes tongue adding color to the photograph. To finish the picture a light blue photo filter was placed over the entire photo. | The finished photo. Cropped to eliminate some of the busy
